For more than thirty years he has held a range of technical and management positions for small and medium sized companies (more than half this time involving medical equipment) , and has travelled widely overseas in these roles. He has been managing director of Surgicon since he started the company in 1983. His other business activities include management consulting and quality assurance management and training for clients in several industries. Blaine holds the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and Master of Business Administration from the Adelaide University. He is a Chartered Profession Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia; a Certified Management Consultant; and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
